Summer is approaching… this means more skin is showing, more time at the gym, more focus on calorie intake, more working on my tan, and the list goes on and on. Sisters, I am TIRED of trying so hard to meet the “standards of beauty.” It is an exhausting, unending cycle. You know what I’m talking about. The moment you reach a size 4, 2 becomes the new 4 and then 0 becomes the new 2. Or the moment you finally buy low-rise skinny jeans and high waisters come back in style. Or that time you took almost an hour straightening your frizzy, curly hair so you could feel confident for a few hours until you had to shower again.
Let’s face it, life as a
young woman in the 21st century is SO hard. Models, actresses, and singers are photo-shopped to create an illusion of perfection. The truth is that they have tummy rolls, wrinkles, and curves. The problem is we believe the lies fed to us. Yes, we are all getting fat, but not in the way you think. We are getting fat on the junk that media is giving us. The more we intake, the bigger we get in the mirrors and the uglier we believe that we are. Dictionary.com describes beauty as:
Hold up! Beauty in itself is not bad. We do not need to hate people that we think are physically attractive. The problem we face is when the world limits beauty. When they say 5’10” blonde hair, blue eyes is beautiful, they are condensing the definition of beauty into a small box. They are saying in order to be beautiful there are certain man-made requirements.
Let us compare the three definitions given with God’s view.
2): I love this because beauty comes from a well thought out plan. Beauty has a purpose. Lie: I am just another person. There is nothing special or unique about me. Truth: We are God’s masterpiece’s that He created for His glory.
So Darling, know that YOU are beautiful. Stop asking the mirror “who is the fairest of them all.” (Snow White Quote) Stop letting your mind become addicted to self-image or self-hate. You are extraordinary!
